CASTLETOWN-GEO 2-6 CASTLEPOLLARD 0-8
The original fixture of this final had to be cancelled owing to rain and it was eventually played on September 24th. "A most interesting and keenly contested game from start to finish with the issue in the balance practically all the time".
Defending the Canal end Castlepollard were early on the offensive with Devine and Ring prominent before Gilvarry sent over the opening point. Ring added another. Sean Stokes (Castletown) and Frank Devine (Castlepollard) exchanged points and then points from Mick Kirby and Steve Bolger reduced the 'Pollard lead. Coming near half-time Noel Corcoran had a Castle-town point, but Ring replied for 'Pollard and the sides were level, 0-4 each at the break.
The second half saw 'Pollard again on an early offensive and they had points from Ring and Devine with Noel Stokes replying for Castletown. A Sean Kirby goal gave Castletown a lucky break and they led for the first time. Back came' Pollard. Ring pointed a free and there was only a point between them. Castletown pulled out all the stops and a goal and a point from Mick Kirby proved match winners. 'Pollard fought back gamely and Paddy McCabe had their last and the game's last point close oil full time.
