The hurling wall was officially opened on Sat 15th November 2008 and it was dedicated to the memory of Finbarr Clarke. Finbarr's untimely death occurred on the 28th April 2007 and it was his dream to erect a hurling wall for the youth of the locality to practice and improve their hurling skills. Sometime after his death his family and a circle of friends decided to fulfill his dream and a fundraising event namely a dog night was organised. It proved to be a major success and as a result the wall was built in the summer of 2008. The official opening coincided with a hurling shinty match between long time gaels, Castletowngeoghegan and Kinlochshiel from Scotland. The official opening was performed by the late Finbarr's wife Mary and his two sons, Joseph and Aonghus, and Fr. Giles performed the blessing of the wall.
The committee wishes to express acknowledgement to everyone who contributed so generously towards the project.
Now his dream is fulfilled.
